Straight couple announce pregnancy - media announce ‘India’s first pregnant transman’
Days after a heterosexual couple posted on Instagram about their soon to be born child, Indian media hasn’t had a moment’s respite from covering it. While India has exceeded China in its population explosion (currently at a whopping 1.4 billion), another baby is probably the most mundane and obvious news. So what’s so uniquely celebratory about this newborn? While the couple smile joyously in their “baby announcement photo shoot,” it is momentarily confusing for a layperson to grasp what the interest is. Of course it is the female who is pregnant, but what you see is a stereotypically male presenting woman with a body subjected to three years of testosterone. The father of the unborn child presents himself in a hackneyed female outlook replete with makeup and traditional clothes usually worn by brides. Considering India’s total hijack by the gender identity industry, no wonder the media outlets are falling over each other to cover this news.
For clarity, the couple will be correctly sexed in this piece; the female to constructed male is called Zahad, while the male to constructed female goes by the name Ziya. Written in Malayalam, an excerpt of Ziya’s post read, “Though I was not a woman by birth or by my body, I had the feminine dream inside me to hear a baby calling me ‘mother’….It has been three years since we are together. Like my dream of becoming a mother, he (Zahad) has a dream of becoming a father and today a life of eight months is moving in his belly with his full consent,” and went on to thank his team of doctors and family. This post has since gone viral; sanctimoniously titled “first pregnant trans man of India” by several media outlets.
What is their story?
With just their social media and latest articles to go by, Zahad, the woman is a 23 year old accountant. She has had a double mastectomy and some of their social media posts with scars and grafted nipples confirm this. 21 year old Zia, the man who has been the only one the media is interested in interviewing (no prize for guessing why) is apparently an actress and a classical dancer. It is incredible how he is not just masquerading as a ‘woman’, but turned to an industry that actively hypersexualises and objectifies women. Perhaps, to his mind, being a hypersexualised object satiates his desire to pass; but he isn’t alone in such pursuits, given a large majority of TiMs also follow this path. While his social media is an assortment of his dance performances, achievements etc, the only posts with Zahad is when they are talking about the baby. Yet, the bio of his Instagram account has the word ‘MOTHER’ in bold to ease any ambiguity around what the core of their relationship is about. While Zia endlessly rambles on to the media about his experience of being a “mother,” his meek partner with an eight month pregnant belly smiles along. As I watched the video, the irony of Zahad’s silence was deafening to me, as was the absolute lack of media interest in her health and wellbeing.
Adoption for ‘LGBT’
DNA India reported, “the couple had previously discussed adopting a child and had inquired about the procedure. However, as a transgender couple, they found the legal proceedings difficult.” While the veracity of this claim is questionable, it is hard to conclude whether they were indeed turned down when they sought adoption merely because of their “gender identity.” I did a deep dive on adoption laws surrounding ‘LGBT’ couples that have lately taken some problematic turns.
In an attempt to pin adoption and surrogacy to LGBT rights, activists and media are claiming that denying either amounts to a violation under laws to protect ‘transgender people’. In a recent case, the Allahabad High Court passed its order on a petition filed by a ‘transgender’ couple seeking adoption. The court observed that a marriage certificate isn’t a prerequisite for adopting a child, as adoption law allows even single parents to adopt. The sex of the child this ‘trans’ couple wanted to adopt is not mentioned. Either way, it seems reckless to readily circumvent carefully thought out policies for the sake of inclusion and so called ‘trans rights’ with no demarcated stipulations.
Essentially, the lobby groups have managed to set legal precedence to ‘trans’ adoption rights by enabling men to self identify as ‘women’, thereby violating the rules laid out by Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) that males, in the absence of female partners, cannot adopt a girl child. Now, all a gay or ‘trans’ couple need to do is proclaim ‘a feeling of womanhood’ and, based on the outcome of ‘Rina Kinnar And Another v. State of UP’ case, they’ll receive a clean chit to adopt a child of either sex.
It is now beyond obvious that most doctors have entirely relinquished their oath to “first do no harm.” The gender identity industry has been piggybacking heavily on the greed and apathy of the medical fraternity and it has been one hell of a collaboration.
Who is thinking of the unborn child?
The Hindustan Times reported that “a team of doctors from the Kozhikode Medical College confirmed that there was no physical challenge in conceiving though both of them were in the process of gender transformation.” It is now beyond obvious that most doctors have entirely relinquished their oath to “first do no harm.” The gender identity industry has been piggybacking heavily on the greed and apathy of the medical fraternity and it has been one hell of a collaboration. In the case of Zahad, the doctors who affirmed her choices – instead of discussing the dangers associated with carrying a baby to term in a body that’s been injected with testosterone for three years – ought to be punished for negligence. But they are hailed as pathbreakers by the media and such advertisements inadvertently send more vulnerable youngsters to the Indian Dr. Jekyls.
There is very little research on the various circumstances under which a child may be harmed while in the womb. Genetic disorders aside, tiniest of things could exacerbate lifelong conditions for unborn children. Hyperemesis, for example, could affect long-term developmental complications in a child; and a large majority of women end up neglecting most of the symptoms because it is considered “normal.” There have also been circumstances where the pregnant mothers may have had certain medications or steroids that harm the health of the newborn.
Obstetricians often warn expecting mothers of a large array of risks based on the blood work and tests taken during the process of pregnancy. How have they entirely circumvented exercising due diligence when it comes to women who have injected synthetic hormones on a daily basis for years together?
A study conducted by the European Society of Endocrinology to find possible association between maternal androgens and offspring size at birth in humans, revealed some alarming findings.
“Maternal testosterone levels can affect newborn growth and size through several potential mechanisms. Maternal testosterone may modify her energy homeostasis and thus decrease nutrient supplies to the placenta and foetus. Alternatively, testosterone may modify placental function and reduce the capacity for transport of nutrients to the foetus. Maternal testosterone may also cross the placenta and exert a direct effect on foetal growth and/or energy homeostasis. A combination of all these mechanisms is also conceivable.”
According to ESE, animal studies that have maternal androgen exposure may influence the intrauterine environment and thereby offspring development. The study says, “in sheep, testosterone treatment of the mother during early to mid pregnancy reduced birth weight and height in the offspring of either sex. This supports the concept that foetal growth retardation, an early marker of adult diseases, can be initiated through prenatal excess exposure to sex steroids. Studies in non-human primates and other animals have shown that prenatal exposure to testosterone led to female hyperandrogenism, infertility, behaviour modifications abdominal adiposity and insulin resistance during adulthood in the offspring.”

No breasts to breastfeed
Though the media would like to euphemistically call it ‘top surgery’, having undergone double mastectomy, Zahad can’t breastfeed her child. DNA India reported that “they (sic) intend to feed the infant using the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode’s breast milk bank.”
Though India’s first Human Milk Bank (HMB) was established in 1989, a study reveals that HMBs in the country gathered momentum only recently. This study also states that published data on status of these HMBs is not available. As per the research conducted on 16 out of 22 HMBs in the country, it was found that milk was collected predominantly from mothers of sick babies and in postnatal care wards followed by paediatric outpatient departments, camps, satellite centres, and homes. This milk bank is primarily aimed to help babies, especially those with very low birth weight. The report confirms that “India has the highest number of preterm births in the world and breastfeeding rates are suboptimal. The banks help babies if they do not have access to their mother’s own milk due to reasons such as mother’s sickness, separation, or temporary lactation issues.”
According to United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), India has 29.6 million orphaned and abandoned children since 2018. There are 15 HMBs in India, in total, that probably cater to a handful of at-risk cases where the mother has passed away or is unable to lactate. According to WHO, every year, more than 20 million infants are born underweight. India has the highest number of newborn deaths in the whole world.
Given the pitiable condition of orphaned and economically downtrodden children who die within the first year of their birth, is it prudent for the ‘trans’ industry to start relying upon the HMBs? Is it ethical for the medical staff to recommend this as a solution given that there is such a huge demand for breast milk? I should clarify that I don’t suggest trans identifying women shouldn’t have access to resources for their children; I merely ask the lobby groups to introspect how unfair it is to infiltrate an already dwindling resource meant for millions of children whose mothers did not wilfully remove their healthy breasts?
Whether the general population wakes up to the various degrees of damage of the gender industry or not, we are steadfastly walking towards a dystopian future, where children will be born with complications we might not even be able to comprehend.
One of many to come
The child expected to be born next month (in March) to Zahad and Zia is one of many to come. Just like in the West, the gender industry is going to consume young, gullible minds who will not only subject themselves to irreversible damage, but also put their offspring through some of it. It isn’t a surprise that “India’s first pregnant trans man” comes from Kerala. Having gone hopelessly ‘woke’, Kerala also boasts its “first trans lesbian couple” among many firsts. What once used to be a model state in providing welfare measures for the truly marginalised, Kerala has now forgotten its own roots. Considering we live in an internet era, Zahad’s baby (who I genuinely hope is born with no complications) will lure several others to the idea. Whether the general population wakes up to the various degrees of damage of the gender industry or not, we are steadfastly walking towards a dystopian future, where children will be born with complications we might not even be able to comprehend.
