While it is hard to say whether the stakeholders operate out of malice or ignorance, it is evident that the true purpose of inclusion has gone astray

At the beginning of this year, I sounded the alarm about a government body’s intent to introduce propaganda about puberty blockers, and synthetic hormones into the Indian school curriculum. Coincidently, at much the same time a ‘triggered’ TiM medical student ‘Trinetra’ Gummaraju lobbied to revise medical textbooks- calling for the exclusion of supposedly ‘unscientific information about LGBTQIA+’ and the inclusion of aspects of his ‘queer identity’.

Last month, discussion around including information centring on puberty blockers in school ‘training materials’ resurfaced in the Madras High Court. Justice Anand Venkatesh, an instrumental figure in the revision of medical textbooks as per Gummuraju’s plea, evidently intends to promote and cultivate ‘woke’ ideology in Indian schools.

The manual, titled ‘Inclusion of Transgender Children in School Education: Concerns and Roadmap’ was originally published on the NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) website in 2021. It contained training material for school teachers with mentions of puberty blockers, hormones and surgical interventions as solutions to ‘gender dysphoria.’ The manual, however, had no warnings or reference to the irreversible damages caused to the body if a child is encouraged along this path.

Several complaints, including one WDI India submitted from a feminist perspective, were sent to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), and the online manual was subsequently removed.  In spite of this, Justice Venkatesh has dismissed all concerns about child safety, and given NCERT less than a month to re-raise the issue. He is dissatisfied that no steps had been taken for sensitisation of teachers despite passing orders to introduce this subject matter back in April.  He criticised the decision to pull the materials from the government website and labelled it a ‘knee jerk’ reaction.  Justice Venkatesh is one step closer to his goal of unleashing gender ideology propaganda onto the Indian school system, as the senior panel associated with the manual has confirmed that the sensitisation of the different stakeholders of school education will commence in the coming academic year.

With safe spaces for women and girls being erased across the country, the introduction of gender identity in school curricula and corresponding changes to school infrastructure (such as toilets),  the physical and psychological harm this will do to our children cannot be understated.

The southern state of Kerala has recently proposed a ban on all single sex schools, calling for a detailed report on the implementation of the co-education system to be submitted to the Commission within 90 days. Of course, for anyone who even so much as vaguely understands the plight of women and girls in a country like India, this is clearly an incredibly short-sighted and reckless intervention.  With safe spaces for women and girls being erased across the country, the introduction of gender identity in school curricula and corresponding changes to school infrastructure (such as toilets),  the physical and psychological harm this will do to our children cannot be understated.

There is a steady increase in the number of women opting for ‘gender affirming’ surgeries, and though nobody seems to address the underlying cause, it is clear that they find ‘transgenderism’ as an escape from the woes of womanhood. On the other hand, self identifying males have free access to women’s sports, and other safe spaces. The act of self identification in itself is not under any scrutiny at all; the Delhi HC passed an order stating that surgerical procedures are not required to change sex markers on legal documents like passports.

Justice Venkatesh is also one of the leading voices speaking up against ‘conversion therapy practices of the LGBTQ+ persons’. While on the surface this may seem admirable, it is important to understand that in many cases ‘sex change’ is in fact an effective way of ‘opting out’ of homosexuality.  So by having all of these alphabets together this way to advocate against conversion therapy, one can see that this will end up in quite a mess.  Nonetheless, the Madras High Court directed the National Medical Commission to condemn ‘Conversion Therapy’ as professional misconduct. An entire court order that crucially does not define what conversion therapy means, has included the letters ‘TQ’ under the gamut of rulings. According to LiveLaw: “The court also directed the Standing Council for NMC to refer to the suggestions put forward by the petitioners about conversion practices and the scope of its prohibition. The petitioners, in their submissions, also made reference to legislation in other countries with respect to conversion therapy and the United Nations Independent Expert report on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The court said that the same could be utilised by the NMC while finalising the enlistment of professional misconduct for “conversion therapy”.”

Transgender Trend, the UK’s leading organisation campaigning for evidence-based care for gender dysphoria, comprising of parents, professionals and academics, have been advocating for the safety of children who identify as ‘trans’. In a briefing submitted to the House of Commons, TT explained in meticulous detail, the dangers of blind affirmation practices, and conflation of sexual orientation and gender identity:

“Therapy for gender dysphoria is not ‘conversion therapy’. The government should not include ‘gender identity’ in any legislation on conversion therapy without specifically clarifying this point, nor conflate this term with sexual orientation. The addition of ‘gender identity’ to any policy on ‘gay conversion therapy’ leaves therapists with no option but to agree with a patient that they are really the opposite sex, foreclosing any possibility of exploration of feelings and meanings, or underlying issues/mental health problems that may have lead to a cross-sex identity, for fear of being accused of ‘conversion therapy.’ This puts children and young people particularly at risk of progressing to a medical transition with lifetime consequences they may later regret.

Framing proper therapeutic support as ‘conversion therapy’ mandates ‘affirmation’ as the only legitimate response to children and young people with gender dysphoria. There is no evidence to support this experimental one-size-fits-all approach which serves to cover up any underlying mental health problems or trauma, leaving young people without the mental health support they need. Health professionals have a responsibility to provide normal duty of care to gender dysphoric youngsters.  ‘Gender identity’ is not a protected characteristic, has no objective meaning, and its addition to any legislation on conversion therapy would prohibit therapists from offering the same standards of care to young people suffering gender dysphoria as for any other troubled youngster.”

India does not heed the warnings from other countries, and instead marches on with glorified projects aimed at ‘trans children’ while eliminating safe spaces for women and girls in the process.

Just last week, the news of a potential lawsuit against one of the UK’s most prominent gender clinics, the Tavistock, took the internet by storm. It was reported that “up to 1,000 families could join the litigation, with claims that former patients are facing ‘physical and psychological permanent scarring’.” This came soon after it was announced that the NHS (National Health Service) UK was closing the Tavistock Centre, the only gender identity clinic for children and young people, after the independent interim Cass Report found it was “not a safe or viable long-term option.”

The report published by the consultant paediatrician Dr. Hilary Cass, has revealed that several of the clinic’s doctors had felt “pressured to adopt an unquestioning approach” while treating adolescents with gender dysphoria. It was stated that “the clinic will be fully abolished by the spring of 2023.” Aside from the UK, countries like Sweden, Finland, and France have moved away from puberty blockers, and brought in mechanisms to better understand ‘trans’ ideology in a way that it doesn’t cause harm to teenagers and adolescents. India, however does not heed these warnings, and instead marches on with glorified projects aimed at ‘trans children’ while eliminating safe spaces for women and girls in the process.

The true purposes of inclusion, intersectionality and diversity have gone astray when all efforts are centred on penis.

A growing number of detransitioners sharing their horrifying stories should be a wake up call for a country that is at the cusp of this ideology. Instead, India has doubled down on its agenda by hijacking all the important bodies like law, academia, media etc, brainwashing the gullible and gaslighting the defiant into surrendering. With government as well as private parties deeply invested in this ideology and its propagation, the least they could do is to factor in the dangers. My repeated requests to speak with authorities, with intent to point out these dangers, are continually ignored.  If welfare is the end goal, what’s the harm in listening to all the viewpoints? Why undertake a tunnel vision approach to eliminate all contrary views to the woke agenda? While it is hard to say whether the stakeholders operate out of malice or ignorance, it is evident that the true purposes of inclusion, intersectionality and diversity have gone astray when all efforts are centred on penis.
